Dear Flickr, I lost my Yahoo ID and now I’m desperate…

Update March 8, 2:12 pm: Yes!!! Yahoo finally sent me a new password!! Good to know that if everything else fails, you can still count on the secret powers of the Old Skool Flickr crew. Now if you excuse me, I need to write down my password and make 50 copies of it (for security reasons).

March 7, 2007: Just sent this email to Flickr:

Hello Flickr,

being an old skool member (since sept 29, 2004 !) I really do hope there are still some old skool Flickr people working for the new Yahoo boss. Also I pray to God (and I’m not religious) that it is one of you who receives this email, because my guess is that when it falls directly into the hands of a Yahooliganist, I may never ever get my problem solved.

As you can read below, I was stupid enough to first associate my Flickr-login with the Yahoo ID and then when I got a new notebook I lost my Yahoo password. Stupid yes, should have known better, but I didn’t. In the last few days I’ve tried about everything, tried all different passwords I may have used over the last ten years, but no luck. Then I clicked on the ‘lost your password’ link, thinking this would solve the problem…

Boy, was I wrong! Have you ever seen the form they present to you? What is that all about; confirm your birthday, postal code, country plus a security image??? I’m not trying to login to the Fort Knox mainframe at the Pentagon, am I?? All I’m asking you is to just give me a new password so I can access MY FLICKR ACCOUNT!

And sure, I did try to get in touch with Yahoo, I’ve mailed them more than once, but then all I get is an ignorant standard answer from a guy called Customer Care (actually I think that’s not even his real name). Just read the email he sent me, what it tells me is this: YOU ARE AN IDIOT! You lost your Yahoo ID? How could you? YOU ARE AN IDIOT! You know how hard it is for us to give you one? You think we give ‘em away for free? Do ya? Do ya?

Euhh, yeah. I actually thought you would get me a free Yahoo ID, and some support, since I already payed good money for MY FLICKR ACCOUNT!

Now, I’m begging you, for the sake of the good old skool Flickr times, please help me out here and get me a new password. Please.

Kind regards,
Gerard Bierens

Yahoo’s replay and my original question below:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.

This is an automated message that has been sent to you based on the topic you selected from our feedback form.  If your answer is not included in this email, please follow the instructions at the end of this message and your request will be reviewed by a Customer Care representative.

Because your password is personal and private to your account, Yahoo! Customer Care does not have access to this information.  For this reason, we are unable to verify your current password, reset your password, or determine why your previous password is now invalid.

If you are unable to access your account due to an “Invalid Password” error message, you may have to request a new password.  Before using the online password request form, however, please take a look at the following common causes of “Invalid Password” messages.

* Passwords are case-sensitive, meaning that:

PASSWORD
PaSsWoRd
password

are not equivalent, so be sure to keep this in mind when entering your password.

* If you have recently obtained a new password, please wait a period of 24 hours before attempting to access your account. This will allow our system to update and recognize your password.

* Yahoo! IDs generally do not contain spaces, but many users register IDs that include the underscore “_” instead of a space.

If you are confident the instructions above do not apply for your situation, you will need a new password.

To request a new password:

1. Return to the Sign-in page:

http://login.yahoo.com/
2. Click the “Forget your ID or password?” link.
3. Confirm your identity by entering your date of birth, ZIP or postal code and country.
4. Enter your Yahoo! ID in the “Forgot your password?” box on the left side of the screen.
5. Click the “Get New Password” button.

If you would like to have your new password displayed on your screen and your account has a Password Challenge Question, please type your answer in the appropriate box and click “Display New Password.”

If your account does not contain a Challenge Question or you prefer to have your new password delivered via email, please click the “Email New Password” button.  A new password will be emailed to the alternate (non-Yahoo!) email address we have on file for your account.  This option will only be available to you if your alternate email address has been verified.  If you’ve forgotten your Secret Answer and no longer have access to the alternate email address on file, we will be unable to assist you.

Once you’ve received your new password and accessed your account, you can change it to a new, personal password by clicking the “Account Info” or “My Account” link located at the top of most pages throughout the Yahoo! network. Re-enter your current password to continue, and click “Change Password” from the Account Information screen to change your password.

If you did not find your answer in this message or need further assistance, please reply to this email and provide the information requested below along with a description of the problem you’re having. Without all of this information, we may be unable to process your request:

1. Yahoo! ID
2. Date of birth (mm-dd-yyyy)
3. ZIP/Postal Code
4. Country
5. Alternate (non-Yahoo!) email address that we currently list
6. Your new alternate email address, if it needs to be updated (please note, this cannot be a Yahoo! Mail address)
7. Secret Question and Answer

Note: In order to ensure your email is sent to the correct department, please do not change the subject line.  Doing so may delay your email from reaching a Customer Care representative.

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Account Services.

Issue:  What if I forgot my password?

Enter your question here: I’ve lost the cookie on my computer, and now I can’t login to Flickr anymore. My mailbox-archive does not seem to hold the password either. On Yahoo-sign-in-problems I’ve tried every possible combination that I can think of, but I can’t get it to reset my password. Plase help me out here.
