MetadataFurl.net up and running
Na bijna twee dagen down-time, was de linkstack-service Furl.net vanmiddag ineens weer online. Omdat ik nergens op de site een verklarende tekst kon vinden, stuurde ik ze maar eens een mailtje:
Zojuist rolde deze verhelderende e-mail van Mike Giles himzelf binnen, waarin hij zonder om de hete brei heen te draaien uitlegt wat er allemaal mis ging:The last 2 days I could not get access to Furl. The whole week before there were lots of lacks in availability. This is ok, since you are in beta, but I would appreciate it if you put up a status-page on furl.net where you explain when and why the system went offline.
And ofcourse it would be even better if you made that an RSS-enabled status-page.

Ik was al voorzichtig aan het rondkijken naar andere linkstackers en had zelfs mijn Furl-archief al naar een Zip-file geëxporteerd. Maar ja, als de eigenaar van een door vele duizenden gebruikte service dan de moeite neemt om me persoonlijk te antwoorden...tsja, dat verandert de zaak natuurlijk. Ik hou het voorlopig dus nog bij Furl.Indeed, the site was down for a long time. It was a combination of bad luck (i.e. kernel bug), bad timing (I was in a plane all day) and a mistake (the IT team had been mistakenly removed from the emergency notification script in an earlier change). No data was at risk, but the monitoring scripts (which should have restarted it, but failed due the kernel issue) are being reworked, the kernel will be patched, and the emergency notification list is fixed.
We don’t feel that this is any more excusable than you do and will do everything we can to make sure the same set of circumstances don’t have this result in the future.

update: inmiddels staat er op de Furl-voorpagina ook een verklarend berichtje, met RSS-feed. As suggested
