MetadataMSN Encarta imiteert WikiPedia
MSN Encarta (de encyclopedie van Microsoft) accepteert sinds vorige week ook bijdragen van gebruikers. Geen nieuwe artikelen (dat gaat iets te ver), maar bestaande artikelen mogen direct online bewerkt worden, zelfs anoniem. Of Microsoft er ooit een patent voor zal durven aanvragen, dat vraag ik me af. Maar dat het hier gaat om niets anders dan een goedkope imitatie van wikipedia is wel duidelijk. Of het een succes wordt? Tjsa, het is wel het bijna almachtige Microsoft. Aan de andere kant kan ik me ook wel iets voorstellen bij de woorden van Jimmy Wales:
Hmm, now people have a choice. They can donate their time and energy to a nonprofit effort to make the world a better place by giving away an encyclopedia under a free license. Or they can go to work for free, enriching Microsoft.
I wonder what the most talented and dedicated people will choose.
