De vuurvogel wordt een vuurvos, ofwel Mozilla Firebird wordt Mozilla Firefox. Klinkt toch wel wat vreemd in de oren. Volgens Mozilla voorman Mitchell Baker is voor de naamsverandering gekozen vanwege overlap met een ander open source project:
“We are pleased to release a new preview version of Mozilla Firefox,” commented Mitchell Baker, President of the Mozilla Foundation. “To avoid overlap with another open source project, we have also decided to change the name of this product from Mozilla Firebird to Mozilla Firefox.”
Om welk open source project het dan draait, vertelt ie er niet bij. Het zal wel hierom gaan: http://firebird.sourceforge.net
